Water Table

Exhibition at The Luan Gallery, Athlone, 2018

Glass tanks containing varying levels of water from full to empty are placed on white tables making a long linear row. As natural systems become overwhelmed in a time of climate change this work address the looming water crises. Lack of recharge in nature’s systems is causing parched earth, crop failure and drought in some parts of the world, while other areas experience flash flooding, excess and waterlogging. The installation encompasses these extremes, it is completed with a sound work by composer Rhona Clarke. Sounds move from ones of excessive water flow to sounds of empty containers, dryness and thirst.
Water Table was created for The Luan Gallery which is located in a flood-prone site on the bank of the River Shannon, Ireland. Display conditions of darkness with spotlights allowed sound and visual elements to work together at optimum levels. Duration: 04. 27 mins, looped.
