Water Table
Exhibition, The Luan Gallery, Athlone (2018)
Glass tanks containing varying levels of water from full to empty are placed in a long row. This work addresses the looming water crises as natural systems become overwhelmed in a time of climate change. In some parts of the world the lack of recharge in nature’s systems is causing parched earth, crop failure and drought, while other areas experience flash flooding and excess water-logging. The installation is completed with a sound work by composer Rhona Clarke. Sounds change from those of excessive water flow to ones of dry scratchy earth and empty water containers.
Water Table was a site specific work for The Luan Gallery located in a flood-prone area on the bank of the River Shannon, Ireland. Display conditions of darkness with spotlights allowed sound and visual elements to work together at optimum levels. Duration: 04. 27 mins, looped.
